"Moon Soul" (2025) Painting

"Moon Soul" was inspired by the beauty of women's bodies. (Many, not all) women hold portals to a world beyond our own - a gateway to life. Our bodies have been eroded by social understandings of how we should portray ourselves and behave.

Sexuality and the self confidence we have in our bodies are some of the only innate physical aspects of ourselves that aren't celebrated - we enjoy life by eating, drinking, playing, partaking in art and hobbies, dancing, singing - but sex is taboo and embarrassing. Sex is a celebration, as is our love for our bodies. When we pass from this life, no one credits our physical features to who we were. Our bodies can be many things, but shameful should not be one of them: our bodies carry us our entire lives and deserve so much more than criticism over aging, size, texture. If we were still primal creatures, our physical attributes would not contribute to our belonging in community, and should not matter now. I want this piece to inspire people, especially women and femmes, to feel connected to and appreciation for their bodies: they hold the most brilliant of minds, the most creative of dreams and aspirations and the most love to give to others.
