"Meeting Myself for a Brief Time" (2026) Painting
18x24" acrylic painting on canvas.
This painting is part of a series born from the act of overthinking and stress. It's about the relief you feel when you remind yourself that "none of this matters." That our problems are a drop in the bucket of all our life's experiences; the fact that we are part of this precious life on Mother Earth is a miracle.
Yet, this matters so much. We have the ability to communicate through an ancient language, to create art from tools used by the most prolific masters in history, to experience grief, joy, jealousy and euphoria all in the same moment. We have the ability to love unconditionally, to birth our future generation, to feel rage when we care so deeply for our waters and land and loved ones. We can sing and dance, learn culture from people who existed hundreds of years before us, read the innermost thoughts of writers who thought their words meant nothing, yet transformed how we see the world.
We can use our life to do anything we want - our free will is boundless. Yet, we regularly feel suffocated, trapped and restrained to the lives we live everyday. We feel the weight of the world and we carry it with us everywhere we go, spilling out into arguments with our dearest loved ones and poisoning our bodies until we're sick.
But this series is about that final feeling of relief - when we reach the end of the internal monologue that has sucked us in for hours, days, weeks - and we realize that these worries are arbitrary in the grand scheme of our life. When it feels like all of those problems evaporated into the thick, humid air that bursts through our windows - a reminder that spring is among us, that the seasons will always change, and the plants, like last year and every year before this one, are working overtime for us to feel that relief.
Maybe that relief is not us realizing that "none of this matters," but that "all of this matters so much."
